Rare Tortoiseshell and Ivory Tea Caddy
A superb tortoiseshell and ivory George III tea caddy with a rare double bow front c.1810. The lid has a silver plaque in the centre and fine inlaid pewter stringing. The lift-up lid reveals twin compartments each with tortoiseshell lids which are shaped to fit each of the bow fronts of the caddy. This is very, very rare. The internal facings of the caddy are ivory and the lid retains its original velvet lining. It has a silver escutcheon to the front, stands on four round feet and the underside of the caddy retains its original paper lining. A truly exceptional example of a George III tortoiseshell and ivory tea caddy. Width 18cm. Depth 12.5cm max. Height 12cm. max.
